Working on safer teen driving for the past seven years, I have met many extraordinary people.  Such as Audrey Apanovitch, now a senior at Glastonbury High School here in Connecticut.  One of Audrey’s best friends, Jane Modlesky, died in a one-car crash in July 2013.  Since then, Audrey has devoted herself to safe teen driving.  But more than that, she has carried her town on her back, and through her incredible energy and poise has done something few teens can do — she has commanded the attention of the adults in her community.

A few days ago, Audrey published a guest post on the blog that the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) has established for this month, which is Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.  I encourage you to read Audrey’s insightful and moving words, linked below.  In addition to her tribute to her wonderful friend, I recommend reflection on part of one sentence in Audrey’s post, a few words that contain layers of meaning and lessons for everyone involved in safe teen driving:  “If any one of the Graduated Driver’s License laws had been followed just hours before.…”  Amen, Audrey, Amen.
