Friends:  Today, December 2, 2015, is a big day, and 2015 has been a good year.

For my son Reid, that is.  (Me too, but especially Reid.)

Nine years after his passing, Reid’s story is now known to and embraced by more people than ever before, through the September 2015 publication of His Father Still:  A Parenting Memoir.  My thanks again to so many people who helped in the publication of this book.  Thanks also to those who have sent me comments on it, explaining how they have seen their own family in Reid’s story, or how the book has illuminated the choices that parents make about their children.

(A news note about His Father Still:  on Tuesday December 8th, for one day only, you will be able to DOWNLOAD IT FREE AS AN EBOOK ON ALL MAJOR ONLINE RETAILERS.  The price will be listed on all retailer websites as $0.00, no promotional code needed.  Please spread the word to anyone who reads eBooks!)

So why is today also a big day?  Because today, after nine months of work, and with sponsorship by The Travelers insurance company (here in Hartford, CT), and support from a who’s who of national traffic safety organizations, we are releasing nationally on YouTube, with a press release and social media outreach, a six minute “video companion” to our 2013 book, Not So Fast: Parenting Your Teen Through the Dangers of Driving. The video is intended as both a stand-alone resource for parents of teen drivers about the biggest causes of teen driver crashes, and also an invitation to parents to learn more about safe teen driving.  HERE IS THE YOU TUBE LINKhttp://tinyurl.com/odauzt9.  I hope you find it useful and informative.  My thanks to The Travelers and all of the sponsoring organizations for their support.

Having Reid’s story published, and having him emerge as one of the faces of safe teen driving, is gratifying, but as with everything that Reid and I have done together* during the nine years since his passing, it is the help we have given to families, and the advice we have provided about saving lives, that counts.  On this score, 2015 and today in particular  feel like progress toward these goals.  Onward.

*  My use of the words “that Reid and I have done together” is entirely intentional — as those of you who have read His Father Still, especially the last chapter, will understand.
